How to Get to Coimbra
Coimbra is located 200 km north of Lisbon and 100 km south of Oporto. The best way to get to Coimbra is to fly to Lisbon (easier) or Oporto and then drive or take a train.
Driving from Lisbon
On the way out of the Airport follow the signs for "A1", heading north. After 200 km, exit at "Coimbra Sul". The highway toll is around 11 Euro.
Traveling by train from Lisbon
- Take a taxi from the airport to the Oriente railway station (10 minutes, around 10 Euro).
- Go to the upper ticketing level at the station and buy a ticket for an “Alfa Pendular” or “InterCidades” train. Trains depart approximately every hour, and the journey takes around two hours. Please note that the last daily train departs at 20:04 or 21:04, depending on the weekday (timetables available here).
- Get off the train at “Coimbra B”.
- There you may take a local train to “Coimbra A” (downtown station). You may use your previous ticket (this transfer is included in the price). Astoria Hotel is 100 meters south of “Coimbra A” station and IBIS Hotel is 400 m south of the station. In both cases just follow the street in front of the station main entrance, along the river. Oslo Hotel is just 50m north of the station and Almedina Hotel is 300m north. When you leave the station main entrance just turn left.
- If you are staying at another Hotel you should, instead, take a taxi from “Coimbra B” to your Hotel. This should cost less than 5 Euro.
